Commission an Artwork
Commission an original painting, sculpture, photograph, or textile piece directly from a Philippine artist. The Art Lounge facilitates every stage — concept, contract, production, and delivery — so first-time collectors can proceed with confidence.
How a commission works
Most commissions take eight to sixteen weeks from brief to delivery. Pricing depends on medium, scale, and the artist's current waitlist; we always confirm a written estimate before any work begins.
Brief
Share what you have in mind — subject, scale, palette, where it will live. References are welcome but not required.
Artist match
We propose two to three artists whose practice fits the brief, with examples of recent work and a draft fee range.
Concept & contract
You meet (in person or online) with the artist to align on intent. A simple contract sets milestones, payments, and rights.
Production & delivery
We send progress updates from the studio. Final work is photographed, packed, and shipped insured to your address.
What you can commission
Painting (oil, acrylic, watercolour), drawing, printmaking, sculpture (wood, metal, ceramic, mixed media), photography, and textile work — including weaving traditions like inabel from Ilocos and t'nalak from Mindanao. If you're unsure whether your idea fits, write to us and we'll tell you honestly.
Common questions
How is the price set?
Each artist sets their own rate based on medium, scale, and time. We share the estimate in writing before you commit. Typical commissions range from ¥150,000 to several million yen depending on scope.
Can I commission from outside Japan and the Philippines?
Yes. We have shipped commissioned works to clients in the United States, Singapore, the UAE, and across the EU. Import duties are the recipient's responsibility; we provide all paperwork.
What if I don't like the finished work?
We agree on a concept and a midpoint check before final paint or fabrication. If the work meaningfully deviates from the agreed brief we hold the artist accountable; if it matches the brief and you've changed your mind, the work is yours under the contract.
Do you take a commission fee?
Yes. The Art Lounge charges a flat facilitation fee of 15% on top of the artist's price. This covers contracts, logistics, photography, and the artist's protection. There are no hidden costs.
