Robert Longo is an American artist widely known for his iconic Men in the Cities series. This book was published on the occasion of the Robert Longo exhibition held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Working across a wide range of media, including drawing, video, sculpture, and performance, Longo has powerfully expressed the imagery and tensions of contemporary society. When I first encountered works from Men in the Cities, I was deeply struck by their overwhelming modernity. Even today, they possess a timeless sophistication that has not faded with age. As of 2026, Longo’s solo exhibition Angels of the Maelstrom, featuring new and recent works, is also being held at Pace Gallery in Tokyo. It is said to be his first solo exhibition in Japan in nearly 30 years, and it is an exhibition I would very much like to see in person. 205 pages / 23 × 26 × 1.9 cm / Paperback
